Telegram Desktop for Windows syncing chats with phone and tablet
Cross-device

Windows joins your phone, tablet and Mac

Telegram Desktop for Windows is designed to be the tenth device in your Telegram session list, not the first. Sign in with a scan-QR flow or a phone code and every cloud chat, sticker pack and saved GIF appears instantly - no import wizard required.

Why choose the native Windows client?

Full keyboard workflow on the desktop

Ctrl+K opens the global chat switcher, Ctrl+F searches every conversation, and Alt+Up/Down cycles through pinned dialogs. The client keeps a small footprint (typically 60-90 MB of RAM idle) and boots faster than opening a browser tab.

Multiple accounts, one window

Add up to three accounts and switch with a single click. The taskbar badge counts unread messages per account so you never miss a mention when juggling work, personal and channel identities.

Voice and video calls, screen sharing

Windows exposes both cameras and virtual audio devices so Telegram Desktop handles OBS overlays, USB headsets and second-monitor screen sharing without extra drivers.

Silent updates you can trust

The client verifies updates against Telegram's signing certificate before applying them, then restarts in place. You do not need to visit this page again unless you switched machines.

Install walkthrough

Install Telegram on Windows in four steps

Follow the flow below the first time you set up on a new PC. It takes about 90 seconds end to end.

  1. Step 01

    Start the signed installer

The button below routes through the secure download API and hands your browser the tsetup .exe. Windows SmartScreen will show the publisher as Telegram Messenger LLP.

  2. Step 02

    Choose an install folder

The defaults are fine for most people: %LocalAppData%\Telegram Desktop. Portable users can pick a USB drive instead.

  3. Step 03

Sign in with your phone number

Enter your country code, tap the code Telegram sends to your phone, and the desktop client syncs every cloud chat in real time.

  4. Step 04

    Pin Telegram to your taskbar

Right-click the running tile once and choose Pin so Telegram launches with a single keystroke - and hides quietly to the tray on close.

System requirements

Runs on almost any PC from the last decade

Telegram Desktop is deliberately lightweight. It ships as a 64-bit binary today, but if you need 32-bit support the earlier tsetup builds are still available from the official archive.

Windows-specific questions

Is Telegram Desktop safe to install on Windows?

Yes. The tsetup .exe is code-signed by Telegram Messenger LLP. Windows SmartScreen and Microsoft Defender both recognize the signature, so the installer runs without unknown-publisher warnings on a fully patched machine.

Do I need to uninstall an older version first?

No - the installer detects an existing profile and upgrades in place. Your session token, media cache and pinned chats stay exactly where they were.

Where does Telegram store data on my PC?

Chat cache and settings live in %AppData%\Telegram Desktop\tdata. You can move the whole folder to another machine to migrate a session without re-authenticating.

Can I run it without admin rights?

Yes - during setup switch the target folder to a location inside your user profile (for example the Desktop) and the installer will not ask for elevated permissions.
