Why Mac users pick this build

Built for macOS, not ported to it

Native Cocoa, not Electron

Telegram for macOS is written in Swift/Objective-C against AppKit. That means retina rendering, working traffic-light buttons, macOS-native menus, and idle memory in the 80-120 MB range - not the 500 MB+ common with Electron messengers.

Universal binary that respects your chip

One .dmg contains both arm64 and x86_64 slices, so M1, M2 and M3 Macs run truly native code without Rosetta while Intel Macs continue to work identically.

Handoff-friendly with iPhone and iPad

Because it uses Apple's standard NSUserActivity APIs, a chat opened on your iPhone shows up as a Handoff target on your Mac dock.

Focus modes and Notification Center

Custom notification sounds per chat, threaded delivery inside Notification Center, and Focus filters so work channels stay quiet outside working hours.

Handoff & Continuity

Continuity with iPhone and iPad

Because the Mac client is built on native AppKit, a chat opened on your iPhone shows up in the Mac dock as a Handoff target. Universal Clipboard also carries the last item you copied from Telegram on iOS across to the Mac window.

Install Telegram on your Mac

  1. Step 01

    Open the official Mac page

The button below routes to the official Telegram macOS site in a new tab, where the current universal .dmg is always the latest release.

  2. Step 02

    Mount the .dmg

Double-click the downloaded file and drag the Telegram icon into Applications - the standard macOS install gesture.

  3. Step 03

    Launch and grant permissions

The first launch will ask for notification, camera and microphone permissions. Approve the ones that match how you plan to use Telegram.

  4. Step 04

Sign in and enable iCloud sync

Sign in with your phone number, then flip on iCloud message backup if you want a device-to-device restore path independent of the Telegram cloud.

macOS-specific answers

Is there a Telegram Mac App Store version?

Yes. The Mac App Store hosts a signed build with sandboxed permissions. It ships slightly later than the direct .dmg but offers automatic updates via App Store.

Will it run on macOS Sonoma or Sequoia?

Every macOS release since Catalina is supported, including Sonoma and Sequoia. Notifications, Focus filters and Widgets all work as expected.

Where is the Telegram Mac data folder?

Application data lives at ~/Library/Group Containers/6N38VWS5BX.ru.keepcoder.Telegram. Back this folder up to preserve secret chats between reinstalls.

Can I run it alongside the iPhone app via Handoff?

Absolutely. As long as both devices share the same Apple ID and Handoff is enabled, the current chat surfaces on the other device's dock automatically.
